Email Communication

Email Address Requirements

The Department conducts all its communications electronically. This includes sending renewal reminders, updates on significant legislative changes, and other critical notices to dealers via email. To ensure consistent delivery, dealers are required to provide the Department with a stable, business-specific email address that remains unaffected by personnel changes.

Important Note: Avoid using individual employee email addresses, as notifications may not reach the dealership if the employee is no longer employed there.

License Validity Periods

Licenses issued by the Department are valid for one year, with expiration dates varying by dealer type:

  • Franchised Motor Vehicle Dealer (VF): Valid from January 1 to December 31
  • Franchised Motor Vehicle Service Facility (SF): Valid from January 1 to December 31
  • Independent Motor Vehicle Dealer (VI): Valid from May 1 to April 30
  • Wholesale Motor Vehicle Dealer (VW): Valid from May 1 to April 30
  • Motor Vehicle Auction (VA): Valid from May 1 to April 30
  • Salvage Motor Vehicle Dealer (SD): Valid from May 1 to April 30
  • Mobile Home Dealer (DH): Valid from October 1 to September 30
  • Mobile Home Broker (BH): Valid from October 1 to September 30
  • Recreational Vehicle Dealer (RV): Valid from October 1 to September 30
  • Used Recreational Vehicle Dealer (RU): Valid from October 1 to September 30
  • Non-Resident Dealer (NI, NH, NR): Valid from January 1 to December 31

Temporary Tags Overview

The Division is responsible for managing the issuance of temporary tags, which must now be processed electronically through one of the state-approved vendors. While physical (hard paper) tags remain an option, their use is restricted to emergency situations, such as when the electronic system experiences downtime. In such cases, dealers must promptly update the temporary tag details in the electronic system once it becomes operational again.

Failure to comply with this follow-up requirement may lead to the suspension or revocation of a dealer’s license. Temporary tags are valid for a maximum of 30 days and can be issued up to two times per transaction. Dealers who intentionally violate the rules outlined in Chapter 320.131 of the Florida Statutes may face penalties, including a potential third-degree felony conviction. For additional details, please contact Unit 5 “Titling.”
