Per Florida Statute 320.1325, the State of Florida allows a temporary registration license plate and registration certificate valid for 90 days. This special exception applies only to applicants who are temporarily employed in the state. Further, the temporary license plate and registration may be renewed only once, for a maximum of two 90 day temporary license plates issued within a 12 month period. The temporary license plate may be issued to any motor vehicle except for commercial trailers and heavy trucks with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 26,000 pounds which are not owned by a government agency.

The Division of Motorist Services will not consider an application unless the following documents are submitted:
  1. Out of State registration
  2. Either a letter from employer asserting temporary status, an affidavit from applicant detailing employer and employment status, or Form HSMV83080: http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/forms/BTR/83080.pdf Motor Vehicle Registration Eligibility Verification completed by applicant
  3. Fees: as outlined in Procedure RS-41: http://www3.flhsmv.gov/dmv/Proc/RS/RS-41.pdf
  4. Proof of Insurance
