Salvaged Vehicles – Rebuilt Vehicles

schedule assessment Existing Dealers

Salvage Vehicle
A salvaged vehicle is one that has been affected by flood, fire, crash, or any event causing major components of the vehicle to be rendered inoperable. Upon a sale of a salvage car the dealer does, however, need to act in good faith and not mislead a potential buyer as to the condition of the vehicle. Dealers should always remember to stay away from deceptive advertising/misleading information.

Rebuilt Vehicles
It is crucial to understand that when a dealer rebuilds/repairs a vehicle that has been declared salvage the dealer must apply for a rebuilt title (inspection) before the vehicles can be displayed and made available for sale. When applying for a rebuilt title please present at a minimum:
  1. Bill of sale (proof of ownership)
  2. a “salvage” certificate of title
  3. Vehicles deemed “total loss” by an insurance company should have documentation to support the vehicle description and identification along with the date the vehicle was classified as “total loss”.
  4. Receipts for all major components replaced in order to make the vehicle road operable
  5. Form HSMV84490: http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/forms/BRE/84490.pdf  Statement of Builder(form to be completed by repair shop)
  6. Form HSMV82040: http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/forms/BTR/82040.pdf  Application for Certificate of Tile
  7. Photographs of the entire vehicle
The Division Compliance Examiner/Private Rebuilt Vehicle Inspection Facility (PRVIP) such as Miami DMV Rebuilt Inspections will then review all documents along with the vehicle before a title application is approved. The examination fee is $40; $20 if re-inspection is required other charges may apply from the private facility.  Once approved, the examiner will return all required documents to the applicant in a sealed envelope marked with the Division seal. The applicant will then be directed to the County Tax Collector’s office. We have attached a copy of Division of Motorist Services TL-37: http://www3.flhsmv.gov/dmv/Proc/TL/TL-37.PDF procedure manual.

Please review for a more in-depth analysis of the rebuilt titling procedures and requirements or you can also contact Miami DMV Rebuilt Inspections at 305-681-4197.
